I've probably been reading since I was born, or at least I was being read to. I was the first child, so my parents put a lot of effort into me. They would read to me every night before bed since I can remember, and I was continuously read to until about sixth grade. I read picture books like one fish two fish, and had memorized it by the time I was three, but I started learning to read at school in kindergarten. At first I would read picture books, which I would pick out at the library with my mom. She encouraged me to read picture books, but as I got older she also suggested and supported easy readers and chapter books. I am really close with my mom. I tell her everything, even though sometimes I regret it down the road, there is just nothing I can hold in. I guess it is possible that our verbal relationship is strong because she would read to me. Learning to read was not a stressful thing for me. I was young so I was not very resistant to learning. I read a lot on my own time. I would do the summer reading program at the library every year, and always completed it all. I really enjoy reading.
As I began middle school I read a lot of adventure books. Our street made a book club and we read the Secret Benedict Society, and I also read books about dragons because my brother and cousin would. I read the whole Harry Potter series in middle school and read the Twilight series eighth grade or freshman year. Then I began to read Jodi Picolt and romantic novels like Nicholas Sparks. I read at least seven Jodi Picolt books, but I have stopped, because even though they are well written, I feel like they make me question my faith and what I believe in a little, and I do not think a book is worth it. I have not read this school year at all for pleasure, because I am so busy with homework and work or sports. I read in the summer and maybe some Sophmore year, but it had died down due to lack of time. I really enjoy reading though, and have already read a lot just this weekend. I am excited to have free reading as a homework assignment now.
