My favorite blog this week was by kitties and cats at http://lovincats.blogspot.com/2012/01/reading-log-2.html. This post was above average because it engaged me through its use of emotions. She connected the context to life, a very insightful point. "People make life hard, but they also, make it worth living." was what caught my attention. Interpreting life lessons and applying them to a post makes it more interesting for the reader because they can relate to the situation. I may not have read the book, but I can still get something out of the post, instead of just feeling out of the loop, on the oblivious side of an inside joke.
As for the "Dead Poets Society"' I thought hurl-a squirrel's was the best (http://rushingrivers123.blogspot.com/). The opening claim, "In the opening scene from Peter Weir’s 1989 film Dead Poets Society, the ceremonious activity and formal relations reveal some skeptical intensity and proud aggression"' really conveys the feeling and emotions trying to be expressed. It presents the ceremony as dreadful for the students but exciting for the parents. The describing phrases that worked the best were "a rallying speech", " intimidate the incredulously numb children", "packed pews", and quiet a few in the opening claim as well. I think it was overall very well written because it explains in words exactly what I felt and picked up from the first scene, and it uses strong verbs and describing adjectives to support its point.
