First of all, I observed a significant difference in Aibileen and Minnie's dialogue. It is ironic that Aibileen, even though she mentions that her teacher cried when she dropped out of school as an 8th grader and is supposed to be the smart one, speaks with more broken English than Minnie. Minnie speaks well save a few mispronounced words here and there. On the other hand, Aibileen writes most of her thoughts with a causal slang. The different ways of speaking emphasize the two distinct personalities between the girls. The author easily could have written incorrectly for Minnie as well, but chose to bring out the differences between the two. It is ironic though, because instead of their lingo matching their personalities, it is contrasting. Aibileen who knows the ways of the help, is respectful, writes everyday, had been notably smart as an 8th grader, and seems to have more self restraint than Minnie, uses the language of someone less educated. Minnie on the other hand who is temperamental and gets herself fired because of her lack of common sense and was never stated as above average in school, speaks with a much more refined word choice.
Now Miss Celia. She is my favorite character so far. She is so pure and kind and genuinely happy. I love the way she greets Minnie so genially and treats her like a friend. It's funny that the other women think they are above her, because she is with out a doubt the nicest white woman in the book. I have heard people refer to her being kind and not treating Minnie as an inferior because of her race, as being naive. I could not agree less. If someone acts kindly and honestly because they don't know the ways of the world, they are definitely not naive. I would consider them pure of heart. Because it's not like she hasn't been exposed to women treating the servants poorly. I'm sure she has seen it. But her mind did not pick it up as a reasonable action, or else she would have repeated it. Miss Celia is just acting the way everyone should. Those who are rude are not above naiveness, they are corrupt. And you can't judge a woman for being uncorrupted.
